When people cannot respect and follow man's laws and mandates it tells
me that they cannot follow God's commandments either. How can I say
that? Easy. We are a stubborn stiff-necked people. We don't want
anyone telling us anything. When the speed limit is 50 we go 60.
When the "Do Not Walk" sign is flashing and we are in a hurry...we
cross the street. When there is a leash law and we are supposed to
keep our animals, cats and dogs, on our property we let them run at
large. Why? Because we want to do what we want when we want to do it
and we don't want anyone telling us what to do. When God's Word says,
"Thou shalt not commit adultery" how many people are having
extra-marital affairs? When God's Word says, "Thou shalt not murder"
how many babies have been aborted (murdered)? How many read their
horoscope every day or go to palm readers or trust in a man when God's
Word is very clear when it says, "Thou shalt have no other gods before
me". We want to have extra-marital affairs, or have sex and not be
married. We want to have our fun and when we become pregnant we don't
want the inconvenience of a baby and so we murder the innocent child.
We can't rely on the Word of God as our only source of wisdom and
guidance and so we fall victim to other "things" to make us feel
better. Other "things" to guide us, other "things" to put our faith
in. Sometimes the first and the greatest commandment is the hardest
to live out. To love the LORD my God...that one is not difficult for
me. The part of this scripture that gets difficult at times is the
neighbor part...especially when they are your neighbor. What comes to
mind and what I must keep reminding myself is that nothing they do to
me matters. Nothing they say about me matters. It only matters what
God thinks about me. He is the One that truly knows me...He knows my
heart.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’ Matthew 22:36-39
